Steve and I just returned from a wonderful 5 day 4 night trip to Southern Florida. We spent 2 nights in Key West, and 2 nights in Miami Beach. It really was a much needed vacation for both of us. We haven't gone on a trip with just the two of us in 4 years. Steve really wanted to get away before this little girl arrives in August, and now was the perfect time for me to be able to travel and not have to worry about going into labor.
We flew into Fort Lauderdale on Thursday evening, after a long day on the plane, we were ready get some good food. We asked some locals of places to eat, we ended up going to an Italian joint Carabba's. It was pretty good and filling. After dinner, we went for a walk on the board walk back to our hotel. I was tired and ready for some shut eye, as we were going to try to leave early for the Keys the next morning.
Friday we got up and got ready, then started our adventure to Key West. We stopped by a Target to pick up some sunscreen and tylenol as I forgot ours. While in the store this lady walked up to Steve and said "has anyone ever told you that you look like that guy on the Foodnetwork?" We both couldn't help but laugh, because several people have told him that since he bleached his hair. If you can't figure out who it is...Guy Fieri. We then hit the road and enjoyed the beauty as we drove. Here are a couple of pictures from the road.
Our Hotel in Key West was on Duval Street, which happens to be much like Bourben Street in New Orleans. It is where everything happens, there are shops and restuarants up and down the street. After checking into our room, we decided to go for a walk and see what was out there. We walked from the hotel down to the southern most point in the United States. At this spot we were actually closer to Cuba than we were to Miami. The view of the ocean was spectacular, and the breeze was so nice, it made us both excited to spend some time at the beach. We shopped, we walked, we shopped some more. On Satuday night, we followed everyone in town to the Sunset Celebration. It is held in one of the city squares, and has everything from street vendors, to street performers. Everyone pretty much comes out to watch the Sunset over the islands. It was a beautiful sight to see! After the sun had set, we went up to the top floor of our hotel to overlook the city, and to watch all the hussle and bussle of Duval Street.
