St George Get Away

Steve had to go down to St. George for work this week so we loaded up the girls and headed down with him. I always enjoy it when we can accompany Steve on his road trips. Not only did he do some work while we were there, but we also got to go see Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Meyers. This was Paige's first time getting to meet them. They both couldn't get enough of how beautiful she is. They also couldn't believe how big Savanna has gotten. It was really good to see them both and to spend a little time with them. We left the camera at the hotel so we don't have pictures of them holding Paige. Savanna loved playing in the swimming pool with her daddy, and mom enjoyed some quiet time while they were gone. Savanna is such a good big sister as well, she learned how to change a poopy diaper while at the hotel. Now if she'd not want to change it every ten minutes.

On our way home we stopped at Cove Fort. This was something we have been saying we would do for a long time. We've heard of the fort and didn't realize that it was the grandfather of President Gordon B. Hinckley that built the fort and lived there with his wife and 11 children. While living at the fort, Ira Hinckley would trade horses with the indians and would work to keep the peace between the settlers and the indians. It was also a stopping place for President Brigham Young as he would travel to and from St. George. We took the tour that the missionaries give, and I think Savanna enjoyed getting to see things that they used over 100 years ago. We saw the blacksmith shop that Ira used to make the horseshoes not only for the many horses, but also for the oxen. The garden area was very well groomed and the missionaries told us that everything they plant each year helps them to stay self-sufficient throughout the winter. It was a good stop and learning experience for all of us. Thanks Steve for letting us come along with you!
